Committees: Education Committee
Mandate
The mandate of the Education Committee is to provide input on educational resources that are needed for diaconal ministry and to evaluate these resources regularly.
Expectations of Committee Members
The committee members serve the staff of Diaconal Ministries Canada as they develop resources for areas of diaconal ministry such as
- equipping the deacon for leadership/ministry in the church
- equipping the diaconate and church for outreach in the community
- nurturing spirituality in the diaconate
- building relationships and demonstrating compassion
- leadership development
- engagement of diaconal and congregational gifts in ministry
- stewardship in all areas of life
- justices and advocacy for the marginalized and vulnerable (i.e. refugees, world hunger, abortion, homelessness and discrimination)

Composition of Education Committee
- The education committee is composed of four members-at-large (two from the West, two from the East) and three Board members. The National Director is an ex-officio member. Staff members of DMC attend meetings in an advisory capacity.
- The members are nominated by the committee, staff, executive and/or board.
- The board of Diaconal Ministries Canada approves the committee members.
- The chairperson of the committee is selected by the committee members.
- The term for a committee member is three years with the option of one additional three-year term.
- The composition of the committee is reviewed at each September board meeting.
Meetings
The committee will meet at least two times a year in June and September, with February as an option for a third meeting.
