God opens many doorways for outreach ministry in our community. Deacons have an opportunity to participate in the work God is already doing.

Deacons can identify ministry opportunities in the community so that members build relationships with those who live in the community. Deacons may initiate ways in which their church can work with other agencies or churches on a joint project to meet a need or accomplish a task. Deacons may encourage the reshaping of existing church programs to attract community residents.

Deacons can also promote and participate in a Community Opportunity Scan, which may lead to a new church-based ministry that responds to specific needs or opportunities in the community.
