FAQ: The Diaconal Network
What
is a Diaconal Conference?
A diaconal
conference is an association
of diaconates who represent
churches within a classis
(a group of churches within
a geographical area).
They gather together to
promote and build the
church's ministry of mercy. A diaconal conference
promotes the ministry
of mercy in a variety of ways:
-
promotes mutual learning
opportunities for the
diaconates within a
classis
-
provides training for
new deacons and leadership
roles for deacons in
the church
- stimulates
support for existing
community ministries,
especially Operation
Manna's partners
- encourages
diaconates to search
for new ministry opportunities;
- promotes
international relief
and development work
of the Christian
Reformed World Relief
Committee
- encourages
volunteer work both
locally and internationally
through ServiceLink
- communicates
with classis on a regular
basis where and when
possible

Ministry Developers

of their classis by visiting
the diaconates to give
support and encouragement,
offering workshops, and
giving support to their
diaconal conference.
