Refugee ministry is an outreach opportunity for deacons and congregations. This ministry provides assistance to people who have been forced to flee their home countries and seek refuge in Canada.

Diaconal Ministries Canada partners with CRWRC's Refugee Sponsorship Program. As a result of this collaboration, deacons and congregations become more aware of refugee issues and take up involvement in sponsorship. Diaconal Ministries Canada encourages you to find out more about the impact of Canadian government transporation loans that refugees are required to pay.  Read the story entitled "Justice needed in Canada's hospitality to refugees" in the September 2008 edition of Partners, and the resolution that was passed by the Canadian Council of Refugees (CCR) to request the government to pay these costs for refugees rather than requiring a loan.  Consider contacting your local Member of Parliament to discuss this important resettlement issue for refugees.
